The 7 Series: The Barn Jacket Edit
Despite the fact they’re trending right now, there is nothing more classic than the Barn jacket for autumn layering. Here are some of my favourites…
If you want to try out the barn jacket trend, but don’t want to commit to a Prada priced one, this Zara jacket is great. The washed cotton reminds me of The Row Frank Jacket and the price makes it an affordable yet very chic jacket for autumn layering.
On the subject of The Row, the Frank jacket definitely is more of an investment but the quality and look is divine. The Beige is perfect for everything from autumnal layering to a throw on summer jacket. If you prefer a darker tone, the black denim version is a classic. Find at the Store X.
I love this quilted jacket as an alternative to the cotton barn jackets, especially as the weather gets colder. The corduroy collar gives it a preppy edge to an otherwise more traditional jacket.
Whilst the Barn Jacket is currently having a resurgence, this particular brand has been making this style of jacket since 1894. One day in the English countryside and you’ll lose track of how many you see. Classic for a reason at a much better price than Prada, and just like all of the best things, they look better with age.
Onto another brand that has been creating utility inspired wear since 1889. I love the contrast of high and low, especially when it comes to mixing utilitarian pieces with more tailored/formal pieces. This Carhartt jacket reminds me of Prada with the dark blue shade, I would size up for a chic effortless look and pair with these trousers and these boots.
COS is really great at the moment and their outerwear is no exception. I love the shape of this jacket, the waist cinch makes it feel more luxury and flattering on. The Burgundy colour is the perfect shade for autumn, especially with the contrast of the black leather trim. My advice would be to size down as it runs large!
Whilst Prada didn’t invent the Barn jacket, they might just be the reason for the resurgence. We saw the jackets all over the runway last year paired with everything from mesh skirts to platform heels. This one might just be my favourite, pair with a lace trim top, black tailored trousers and pointy boots for a cool day-to-night look.
On the other side of the spectrum, this Classic Wrangler Jacket is another affordable yet chic way to wear the barn jacket. I wore it basically all weekend in Wales with black leather trousers, The Row boots and a cashmere sweater. I will say whilst the shape and fabric is great, the collar looks a little cheaper than I would usually like. If you’re on the fence, I would go for the Carhartt or Zara jacket.
