The 7 series: NYC
A cultural sweep through New York right now, where art collides with style, design, and those hidden gems that make the city buzz. From galleries to chic salons and restorative treatments.
Man Ray at the Met
The Man Ray show at The Met was truly wonderful. It pulls together films, paintings and objects, but the real magic is in his rayographs. Cameraless photographs that somehow still feel fresh and a little mysterious. The exhibition gives you this rare chance to see how restless and inventive he really was, always chasing a new way of making art. Walking through, you can’t help but feel like you’re inside his imagination.
Sixties Surreal at the Whitney Museum
The Whitney’s Sixties Surreal show is such a trip in the best way. It dives into how Surrealism morphed and popped up in 1960s America, with works from big names like Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, and Robert Arneson. The whole thing feels playful, strange, and a little disorienting, like the decade itself. It’s running through January, so there’s plenty of time to wander through and see how artists of the era turned the everyday into something totally uncanny.
David Mallett
David Mallett’s salon feels like a quiet escape in the middle of Manhattan. It’s elegant without trying too hard. A place where you walk in for a haircut and walk out feeling like a more polished version of yourself. His reputation for effortless, French-inspired style is well earned. David Mallett has now opened a new salon in the Water Lounge at WSA, which, if you get a moment, is an absolute treat.
Ricari Studios
Ricari Studios is the spot when you need to hit pause and recharge. Their treatments focus on slowing down and tuning in. Lymphatic drainage, body sculpting, and deeply relaxing sessions will leave you feeling lighter and calmer. It feels less like a treatment and more like a ritual, a mix of wellness and a touch of New York glamour.
Casa Magazines
Casa Magazines is a West Village institution, its shelves brimming with fashion, art, and design titles from around the world. I initially went there to pick up the latest New York Times Style Magazine, which featured an article on The Corner Shop. But once I stepped inside, I couldn’t help falling in love with the entire collection of magazines.
William White
William White’s shop feels like stepping into a curated mood board—part gallery, part boutique, all taste. Every object feels considered, from design pieces to unexpected finds, making it the kind of place you stop by for inspiration as much as for shopping.
Rashid Johnson at the Guggenheim
Rashid Johnson transforms the Guggenheim into an emotional spiral, anxious faces, black soap paintings, broken men, and hanging plants all woven into something raw and alive. I really loved this show, and it’s one I’d definitely recommend.
