How to Elevate Trainers for Spring
The trainers I can't take off and how to wear them with everything from tailoring to denim, plus the new trainer collab to add to your Wishlist.
I feel like when you live in the city, a really good pair of trainers are essential. Not only are they practical, they are great at making a typically more formal outfit seem more effortless and casual. These are the trainers currently on heavy rotation, simple yet something different. (They are restocked often but sell out quickly!)
Casual Weekend Look
I love these trainers if I’m wearing a more neutral palette, they go with the outfit but with that added pop of red. Paired with jeans, an oversized bomber and white vest. On another note, if you want to add layers to an outfit in warmer weather, I love wearing my knits as accessories. For example, around the waist like above, or thrown over the shoulders.
Safety First
Sometimes a work day looks like this, and as you can see the trainers are construction site tested and approved. Along with the jeans, knit and coat that also came along for the ride. Sadly the hi vis and hat are not part of an upcoming collection (Alex Eagle Construction Studio?!), though that would be fun.
Balancing Tailoring
Potentially my favourite outfit to pair trainers with is tailoring, I love the contrast between a structured more formal outfit and the casual feel of the trainer, it makes it feel less stiff and more effortless. Wearing a very good pinstripe trouser with a contrast bomber and bag.
Pairing with Investment Pieces
A really good outfit to me is all about high low pieces, I love investing in timeless long-lasting pieces then pairing them with my everyday pieces. For example this Hermes red blazer (similar here), whilst paired with the matching trousers and heels would be completely fabulous, the trainers give it a more casual feel for everyday.
Trackpants and Tailoring Always
When buying and creating clothing, it’s so important to me to have items that make it easy to leave the house. Something you can just throw on and feel put together, even in a rush. So, if I have something I already turn to frequently, I’ll then get the same in another colour way. These trainers for example, paired with the best ‘non track pant’ track pants, and tailoring.
Waiting List Wish List:
As part of a new series, the end of every substack will feature what is currently at the top of my wishlist. With everything from art to a new trainer. Starting with The Nike x Bode collab, specifically some very good trainers. Taking after the 1960s Nike ‘Astrograbber’ silhouette, they are launching in two ‘classic with a twist’ styles, one in a black leather with charms attached, and the other in a fun white mesh. They look like the perfect everyday shoe, especially to add a touch of sports into a more polished look. Buy them via Bode.com on the 18th April, 6pm EST.
